This new workshop offers hands on learning for cleaning and harvesting water runoff. Whether the runoff water is carrying chemicals, manure, or silts, this workshop will give participants a variety of tools to assess and mitigate runoff issues in a diversity of situations.
Brock Dolman, Director of The Occidental Arts and Ecology Center’s
WATER Institute, will offer a series of beautiful slide images and interpretations of water, watersheds, human development patterns and restorations ideas that support ecological integrity and social resiliency. Come learn and share innovative approaches to managing residential storm water and designing settlements in ways that reduce impacts and even enhance our watersheds Discover methods of bio-filtration that will grow to be more effective over time. Design systems that mimic natural cycles to withstand the pressures of industrial agriculture without harming the ecosystem.
This workshop takes place on the Lower Pfeiffer Ridge in Big Sur. We will utilize diverse learning approaches including hands-on, lecture, tours and demonstrations.
Topic covered will include: water harvesting, mycorestoration (mushroon restoration, rock and reed systems, erosion control, reforestation techniques, passive watering strategies, microbial bio-filters, watershed restoration, site assessment, permaculture design, and alleviating chemical, biological, and physical stresses to the watershed.
